Windermere, a peaceful town in Orange County, was established in 1889 and was chartered in 1925; it is well-known for being the residence of many professional athletes. Surrounded by sand bottom lakes, it is home to Lake Butler, the largest, in the west, Lake Down in the east, and Lake Bessie in the southeast.
